Kuah Town

Kuah Town
The largest town in Langkawi. Also known as the 'capital' of Langkawi. This is the first spot where most visitor will visit upon arrival to the island. This the place where the airport and ferry jetty is located.
There is an easy harmony of cultures between the mainly Malay and Chinese population of Kuah, which nearing 12,000.
Delicious freshly caught seafood prepared in the traditional styles of these people are available from numerous little restaurants and bazaar stalls scattered throughout Kuah.

 


Pantai Rhu (Casuarina Beach)


Lined with tall shady Casuarina trees, Pantai Rhu is a magnificent beach where the snorkeling is superb in coves rich with coral and marine life. It is also an idea place for a good swim and sun bath.

 

 

 

 

Island Hopping

Island, Beras Basah Island and Tuba Island. These islands are ideal for picnickers and offers endless hours of pleasure in the sun, the sand and the sea. You will be assure of the quality of the natural scenic as these areas are declared a Marine reserve. In Singa Besar Island, you will find a Wildlife Park which offers various natural wildlife observation towers and recreation towel.
 

Seven Wells

 

This is a spot where a freshwater stream cascades about 90 meters down via a series of seven pools. Visiting the pools, especially the top one will definitely brings excitements beside seeing the greening and cooling surrounding.



 

 

Sea Sports

 
 

Exciting windsurfing, sailing, snorkeling, scuba diving, swimming, coral seeing and sun bathing (warning: topless sun bathing in open public areas is against Malaysian law).

 

 

 

Golfing


 

The facilities are available at Langkawi Golf Club, located close to the coastline offers an alternate for those who shun the sea. Check with your resort management or the tourism board to find out the details.

 

 

 

 

Fishing Village Visits

A visit to the fishing village will definitely amaze the tourist.

Makam Mahsuri

Langkawi is steeped in history, its past is full of legends of wronged maidens and lovelorn princes, all of whom have left their mark for prosperity. According the legend, the pure white beaches are believed to have originated from the seepage of white blood that flowed from the body of a beautiful princess named Mahsuri. Mahsuri was sentenced to death for having, allegedly, committed adultery but none of the soldiers could kill her with their weapons until she was stabbed with her own knife. The that flowed, which was supposedly white - depicting her innocence, seeped into the ground. Upon dying she threw a curse on the Island that it would not prosper for seven generations. On the spot where she died, a tomb called Makam Mahsuri was erected where people where people come from all walks of life to live legend. It is about 12km away from Kuah town.

Padang Mat Sirat - The Burnt Rice Field

Then in Padang Mat Sirat is the legend of burnt rice. Here purportedly the villagers burnt their padi when they were invaded rather than leave their rice fields to the intruders. Today, traces of burnt rice still surface (if you are lucky) after heavy downpour. It is located about 18km away from Kuah Town.

Hot Springs

The Hot Spring is said to be the result of a bitter quarrel between two families because of a rejected marriage. A battle ensued between them and everything was shattered including all the pots, plates and saucers. A jugful of hot water was flung to the ground and where it split, is the Hot Springs.
